One Last Go...Stay in Touch

Even though I haven't been able to keep up on what's going on in Fort Ord, you can still follow me on my journeys in and around the California Coast. You can check out my more general blog, www.christietime.com which features restaurant reviews, recipes, reviews and more. Even more informative for those in the same area might be my new Twitter account at www.twitter.com/christietime. They'll be plenty of photos of the area, and I'll be sure to Tweet about any military discounts/ military friendly establishments around town. I hope I can continue to help you find your way around the Peninsula and beyond!

Adios Fort Ord

I moved off of Fort Ord a few months ago, and thought it would be easy to still keep track of things going on. Unfortunately, such is not the case. I do know the new Community Center at Fort Ord across from the Commissary is now open and has an exercise room that looks on the daycare so you can work out while watching your kids. The lap pool is also good for those looking to get a work out while swimming. There are communal areas for barbecuing and picnicking outside, so please take advantage of this new amenity.

I now realize how transient Fort Ord is, so this blog is now ending. I hope some of the posts have helped you get acclimated to the area and hope you enjoy your stay in Monterey! Signing off...

Missing in Action and Military Appreciation Day Tomorrow

I'm sorry I haven't been posting lately, but I actually moved last month off of Fort Ord and into downtown Monterey. That does mean that I won't be able to post Pinnacle Information anymore. That being said, I will still try and do research to share any military events that I find out about.

One such event is Military Appreciation Day TOMORROW, June 4th at the Del Monte Center. There are a bunch of planned activities, discounts and the like. Take your whole family as the lineup looks to be very exciting. Click below on the link for the flyer

Show the Del Monte Center that military events are worth the effort and expense and that the military community here appreciates the support. Hope to see you there!

Hiatus and Artichokes

I'm sorry I've been gone for so long. I moved out of the Fort Ord Community and into downtown Monterey for my own sanity. That being said, I'll try to stay on top of all the OMC events by getting information from my friends that still live in Pinnacle housing.

As for fun things to do this weekend, I'm headed to the Castroville Artichoke festival this weekend. It is both Saturday and Sunday starting at 10:00 am and running to 6:00 pm on Saturday and 5:00 pm on Sunday. There is live entertainment, tons of food (for purchase mainly), a parade, a prince and princess of the festival, and many more exciting activities. I will never forget first driving into Monterey and passing a sign that said Castroville, Artichoke Capital of the World. I will never forget that sign and I'm really excited to go tomorrow.

Active duty military is FREE. Other military is $5, students/seniors/children 4-12 are $5 and children under 3 are free.

Here's a link to an article in the Salinas Californian about the event.
Another website is the festival site which you can get to by clicking here.

New Layout

I apologize for taking down the calendar. I was trying to update the Pinnacle April calendar but there were so many changes and inconsistent classes that it was easier to just link to the pdf of the calendar as it is distributed by Pinnacle. Unfortunately, my Masala Bhangra class, as well as Body Combat and other classes have been cancelled. There seem to be a lot of yoga classes during the day and your same Zumba classes in the evening.

In addition to the Pinnacle calendar, there are links for the monthly MWR Blast which lists upcoming events and activities at DLI and the Peacock Press, the quarterly event calendar for NPS. All military in the area are able to take advantage of any of these classes so get involved, get out there and have fun!

Call Your Elected Officials! URGENT!!

The budget talks do not seem to be going well. Latest news is that the House passed another week-long extension but the President has signaled a likely veto, asking Congress to make decisions and not keep putting it off. While we assumed there would be an exemption to any government shut down for Active duty military, that doesn't seem to be the case. That could mean either: a HALF paycheck for April OR missing an entire check! It's time to hit the phones and call your representation in Washington. If you live in the Fort Ord area call: Congressman Sam Farr 202-225-2861 Senator Barbara Boxer 202-224-3553 Senator Dianne Feinstein 202-224-3841 Call them to say our troops need to be paid! I can't imagine being over in Iraq and Afghanistan wondering how your family at home will survive without a full paycheck, or being out there risking your life and not getting paid. Call now!
